Tim Crawford has been an Active Steward in Sector 1-06 since 2001. Tim is very involved in UAC activities and regularly acts in Leadership roles within the UAC. He is a life-long resident of the Kincardine area and works hard both at work and within his community to raise funds and provides countless hours of volunteer time for causes that are near and dear to his heart. Tim participates in all of his volunteer activities with a smile on his face and with a sense of fun.

For the past several years Tim has been an active participant and organizer of the Multiple Sclerosis Super Cities Walk which is held annually in Kincardine. In 2006, the Kincardine chapter raised over $117,000 for the MS Society. He is also very involved in the overall organization of this event and sits on the local Walk Committee as well as on the Board of Directors for the MS Society of Canada - Bruce County Chapter. He will be taking over as Co-chair of the walk for 2009. In addition to helping to organize the local walk, Tim has also been Team Captain for the Business Bandits (a Bruce Power Team) for the past 5 years. Tim is a leader and takes on many challenges with enthusiasm.

Tim is the driving force behind the Christmas Adopt-A-Family Program at Bruce Power. He has coordinated a number of Christmas Adopt-a-Family programs through the Bruce County Children's Aid Society within Bruce Power. The Adopt-a-Family program is geared toward trying to make entire families in need enjoy Christmas and to get something that they wouldn't normally be able to for Christmas. The program also assists families who find themselves in dire financial straits. For example, this past year, Tim organized a donation from his UAC (1-06) to buy $500 worth of firewood for a family who would have otherwise not been able to afford it.

Tim has also been on the Organizing Committee for the Bruce Power Toy Drive for the past several years and has spent countless hours to try to make Christmas a happier event for local children in need. He spends many hours of his own personal time organizing, shopping, wrapping and delivering presents to locations throughout the local community.

Tim was also involved in the Heart and Stroke Big Bike fundraising event when it came through Kincardine for 2 years running. The Big Bike event is named after the 3O-seat bicycle that teams of enthusiastic riders pedal through 200 communities across nine provinces - raising funds, attention and laughs along the way.

Tim is both a strong union activist and a major benefactor in the community.

Congratulations Tim!

Nan has been volunteering for most of her life. She started at the age of 17 volunteering with the Children's Aid Society.

For several years now Nan has been volunteering in her community at both her children's school (Applecroft Public School and now Terry Fox Public School) and also in organizations associated with Autism. Nan's second son has Autism so it is a cause that is near and dear to her heart.

She has volunteered with the Autism Ontario in Durham Region and also with Resources for Exceptional Children. Nan stepped down from Resources for Exceptional children to focus more on her childrens' school. She also took a break from Autism Ontario to concentrate on her son's therapy.

Recently Nan volunteered with Autism Ontario Durham in their Together for Autism Campaign.

Nan is on the School Community Council at Terry Fox Public school and has been since the school opened 6 years ago. Not only is Nan on the School Council but she also volunteers with their Pizza lunches, their school funfair, and more recently with their School Nutrition program.

On average Nan volunteers between 16 - 20 hours a week minimum.

Congratulations Nan!

Violet and Joe Clows' work in the community has helped people and raised funds for animal welfare.

Joe felt there was such a need for volunteers that he retired early at 58.

The Clows have volunteered in literacy programs, teaching both children and adults to read. They volunteered for a few years wearing period clothes at Black Creek Pioneer Village. They have also worked with young offenders.

But it's the Clows' love of animals that has motivated them to achieve volunteering milestones. For the past 30 years, the Clows have volunteered every Saturday afternoon at a thrift shop for the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) in North York. In honour of their service, the Clows received 25-years pins a few years ago.

Violet sorts and prices items donated to the shop and Joe works in sales. The customers are his favourite part of the job. "Some of them have such interesting stories to tell," Joe says. They look forward to their Saturday afternoons at the shop and are glad to work extra shifts.

On June 17, 2004, the Clows celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. In lieu of gifts, their guests donated $500.00 to the OSPCA.

Congratulations Joe and Violet!
