Vaughn has been a board member of a community outreach organization in Oshawa called Gate 3:16 for three years.
Gate 3:16 provides a place of community during the day for street people to find warmth, food and counseling. It was started with a street couple who were able to turn their life around and help others. When they lost funding they vowed to continue to work for free until the landlord evicted them. When Vaughn and others learned of their plight they formed a board of directors, found funding and still employs this couple.
Today there is drug counseling available, a part time nurse, barbershop and computers with internet availability for information and job searches.
He has raised $8,000 from Darlington employees over the last 4 years in support of this organization. While working as a board member they were also able to raise $12,000 from the landlord, $20,000 from a private donation and $40,000 from the Provincial government.
Vaughn helped provide extensive renovations to a closed bar and turn it into a refuge for street people. He helped install the 400A service, new men's and women's washrooms with laundry and shower facilities and also food service equipment to provide donated food for light lunches.
Vaughn works where ever needed - doing maintenance, repairs, removing garbage, cleaning, handing out food or clothing and providing a friendly ear or advice as required.
Vaughn is a spiritual leader in Darlington. He's very soft spoken and would never force his views on anyone. He has many Darlington employees search him out for guidance in any given week.
Congratulations Vaughn!

Darrell is a member of the Health and Safety Committee and PWU Principal Steward for Brighton Beach Power and volunteers his time at various organizations in his community, Amherstburg ON.
Several years ago he began volunteering with the 202nd Fort Malden Army Cadet Corps as a volunteer, civilian officer for Commanding Officer Ernie Gazdig. Here Darrell played a leadership role every training night (once a week) and accompanied the young cadets on several trips, including camping and shooting range weekends in Meaford and end of the year trips to Canada's Wonderland. He also organized and participated in many fundraising events including pasta dinners and car washes, held at the local legion where he is a member.
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 157 in Amherstburg holds a lunch and supper service every Tuesday called "Toonie Tuesday", which is run by volunteers who take orders, cook and serve hamburgers, smokies, hot dogs, fries and onion rings, does the dishes and cleans and locks up afterwards. On the Tuesdays that Darrell is not working he volunteers at the Legion starting at 11am for preparation and finishing at 6pm after clean up.
Darrell and his family have also volunteered at the Amherstburg Food and Fellowship Mission on Christmas Eve serving turkey dinner. On top of volunteer hours, Darrell also makes donations of new toys, food and clothes to the Amherstburg Mission, clothing donations to the Diabetes Association and has donated blood to Canadian Blood Services upwards of 30 times.
Congratulations Darrell!

For more than 30 years Jill has volunteered her time in the church and the community and at work.
As a former president of Anglican Church Women (ACW), Jill understands the importance of being involved in all aspects of her church. As a member of the ACW she assists with important fund raising events such as the bazaar, strawberry supper and quilt sales.
Out in the community Jill works with a group of professional woman who are committed to raising funds for Simcoe County families in need. They call themselves 'Anonymous Angels' and they hand craft a variety of products which they then market at craft shows, bazaars and home and office sales.
In the past, Jill has assisted Girl Guides of Canada, being a volunteer leader with the Brownie troops, canvassed many years for the Heart and Stroke Association along with being a Sunday school teacher, and a parent volunteer at the Baxter School, reading and craft time being her specialty.
Throughout her career with Ontario Hydro, Hydro One and Inergi, Jill has always offered her time to the social committee and frequently assists with office functions such as Christmas luncheons, employee birthdays, seasonal activities and lottery ticket sales, along with being on the fire safety committee.
The first aid and fire safety training received at work is greatly appreciated as it has been a great benefit while volunteering at any events in the community.
Congratulations Jill!

John was nominated by his neighbor William Hardie. William's wife was in a very serious car accident on December 12, 2002 and spent 4 months in hospital and in April 2003 William was in a bad accident that put him in hospital for six months. During that time John cut their grass, raked leaves in the fall and during the winter he used his snow blower to clear the snow in their driveway and shoveled the snow from their front door and path.
John usually wakes up about 7:00 am and gets the blower out in the winter to clear the driveway and if the plow comes by after he is done he comes back and shovels it again so the homecare staff can get in.
As William is still not able to do this work John has continued to look after the lawns and clear the leaves.
John has driven William from Kincardine to London and Owen Sound for many medical appointments over the past six years. He refuses to take payment for the many hours of work he has done and so if William was to describe the best neighbor ever John would be it.
Congratulations John!
