FAQ

How does a PWU Hiring Hall member get his/her "user name" and "password" to access information regarding his/her pension, benefits and Out of Work List information?
PWU Hiring Hall members should contact the Joint Dispatch at 1(877) 575-3155 to receive there user name and password.

How does a PWU Hiring Hall member have his/her name added to an Out of Work List?
To register on the Out of Work List a member must contact the Joint Dispatch at 1(877) 575-3155 when he/she is laid off.

How is he/she placed on the Out of Work List?
Members are placed on the Out of Work List of their classification by the date of lay off.

Members laid off on the same day will be put on the Out of Work List in the following order:

  1. Members laid off on the same day will be recorded and registered in the order of the date of last referral. The member with the most recent referral date will be placed on the Out of Work List first and so on.
  2. Members laid off on the same day with the same date of last referral will be recorded and registered in the order of the member's Established Commencement Date (ECD). The member with the most recent E.C.D (least seniority) is placed on the Out of Work List first and so on.
  3. Members laid off on the same day with the same date of last referral and the same E.C.D. will be recorded and registered in the order determined by a draw.

If a member is laid off and has not accumulated enough hours to collect maximum EI benefits per week, he/she will retain their "registration date" until enough hours have been accumulated to collect maximum EI benefits. It will be the responsibility of the member to provide documentation to the Union Office confirming their ineligibility for Maximum EI benefits per week.

Members notified of a scheduled lay off who voluntarily terminate their employment or are laid off in a manner that affects placement on the Out of Work List will be deemed to have been laid off the date of the scheduled lay off. Where the employer notifies the union or Joint Dispatch, or it is common knowledge throughout the workplace, of a scheduled lay off all members at work three (3) weeks prior to the date of the scheduled lay off will be placed on the Out of Work List on the scheduled date of the lay off. The intent of this policy is to ensure all members are placed on the Out of Work List in accordance with the Out of Work Rules and to ensure members don't leave the workplace prior to the work being completed. This protects the integrity of the Joint Dispatch Working Rules and the jurisdiction of the union.

Can a PWU Hiring Hall member be on more than one Out of Work List?
Members are generally entitled to be placed on a single Out of Work List. This allows all members an equal and fair opportunity for employment.

Members are entitled to placement on multiple Out of Work Lists where they have the recognized certification for the lists. The recognized certifications include provincially licensed trades. These recognized certifications include but are not limited to; Construction and Maintenance Electrician; Power Line Technician; Construction and Maintenance Millwright; Truck and Coach Technician; Instrument and Control Technician and Electrical Forester.

Members are not entitled to be placed on multiple Out of Work Lists where the classification does not require a recognized certification. Examples of classifications that do not require a recognized certification include but are not limited to; Groundperson; Electrical Forester Labourer; Access Control Operator and Meter Reader.

Members are entitled to apply for work on a Help Requisition for classifications they are not listed for only after all members of the classification requested who are currently on the Out of Work List have the opportunity to accept the work.

Members referred to work will be removed from all Out of Work Lists.
