Hiring Hall

The Hiring Hall is a partnership between the PWU and the employer that will allow our employers to grow and perform peak and intermittent work by providing a skilled, mobile and flexible work force.

PWU Membership is highly beneficial

Hiring Hall members receive an attractive wage and benefit package, retirement program through the Power Sector Benefit Trust and the protection of a collective agreement governing working conditions.  The PWU Hiring Hall accepts applications for all classifications represented in various PWU Collective Agreement Appendices.

What is a Hiring Hall?

The Power Workers’ Union believes that the best way for organizations to prosper and serve their customers is by relying on permanent, full-time employees for work of an ongoing nature. But we also know that, from time to time, all organizations will face peak demands or special projects that require the use of casual or contractor personnel.

The Power Workers’ Hiring Hall works with employers to ensure a supply of qualified, dependable members to fill those casual positions. Hiring Hall members are paid an attractive wage package including benefits and a retirement program.

The PWU Hiring Hall was established to perform supplementary construction, maintenance and other PWU assigned work at Hydro One, Inergi, New Horizon System Solutions, Ontario Power Generation, Bruce Power, the Electrical Safety Authority and Cogeco Pier 1. The Collective Agreements for each employer are different with separate wages and working conditions covering specified classifications of employees. In each case the Hiring Hall member is intended as a supplement to the regular work force. At Hydro One the Hiring Hall is also intended to pursue work off Hydro One property.

The Hiring Hall is a partnership between the PWU and the employer that will allow our employers to grow and perform peak and intermittent work by providing a skilled, mobile and flexible work force. The Hiring Hall member in turn receives an attractive wage and benefit package and the protection of a Collective Agreement governing working conditions.

As noted above each employer has a separate Collective Agreement.

Depending on your classification and/or qualifications, you may be eligible to work for any of our Hiring Hall employers.

How does the Hiring Hall help Employers?

The Hall provides an attractive, highly flexible business alternative to the use of contractors. We supply the skilled people the employer needs and it also provides stable and predictable relationships for skilled casual employees through the Power Workers’ Union Collective Agreements. Our members have established a proud record as productive and effective workers.

The Power Workers Hiring Hall is another success story that comes from working positively with employers to deal with change in a way that protects our members’ interests while also helping our employers to compete effectively and to provide outstanding service.
